Henry Doulton & Co plinth brick found at the Transport Museum, Parade Street, St Helens. There was a number of other plinth bricks set in the wall.
Historically, Henry Doulton is associated with sanitary pipe and brickworks at Rowley Regis, West Midlands (1849). His brother: John is associated with the running of the Doulton company in boundary Road, St. Helens (1849).
Doulton blue bricks were made in Rowley Regis because the type of clay required to make them. Doulton red bricks were made in St Helens due to the sandstone content within the local clay.
